The Second “Plan International Youth Conference” Successfully Held 16 Teams from Seven Schools Discussed Girls’ Rights

The second “Plan International Youth Conference”, jointly organised by Plan International Hong Kong and Department of Asian and International Studies of City University of Hong Kong, was successfully held on 10 September at the University.

The most powerful Caribbean storm in a decade, Hurricane Matthew, hit Haiti with 230 km/h winds on 4 October. The hurricane has caused nearly 500 deaths and an estimated 2.1 million people have been affected. 1.4 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. The hurricane also affects nearly 900,000 children.

Plan International “Because I am a Girl – Donate a Pencil Campaign” Opening Ceremony Dr Ko Wing-man, Secretary for Food and Health, calls on the public to donate pencils

In response to the United Nations’ International Day of the Girl (11th October), Plan International Hong Kong organized the 4th “Because I am a Girl – Donate a Pencil Campaign” again this year from 6th to 10th October, encouraging the public to purchase or donate new pencils to children in Cambodia.

In Hong Kong, children are blessed with the privilege of receiving quality education. Rummaging through their schoolbags, it is not difficult to spot all sorts of fine stationary and textbooks. However, to girls living in developing countries, owning a piece of pencil is a luxury, not to mention the opportunity to go to school. In order to support girls’ education, Plan International Hong Kong is going to organize the 4th “Because I am a Girl – Donate a Pencil Campaign”.

Plan International Hong Kong Youth Conference 2016 Details

In cooperation with the Department of Asian and International Studies of City University of Hong Kong, Plan International Hong Kong has organized ‘Plan International Hong Kong Youth Conference’ since 2015. Through learning and discussions, the conference is held with the aim of encouraging and inspiring young people to speak out for girl’s right and nurturing the sense of global citizenship among younger generations.
