Empowering Women to Achieve Gender Equality

International Women’s Day on the 8th of March marks the celebration of women’s rights and their achievement. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by the United Nations in 2015 clearly states the roadmap for achieving gender equality and empowerment of all women and girls.

Run For Girls’ Rights

Run For Girls is a female charity run co-organized by Plan International Hong Kong and Cosmopolitan with the aim of fighting for and promoting girls’ rights and justice, protecting girls in developing countries from discrimination, inequality and violence.

To raise public awareness of the threats faced by girls in developing countries, Jo Ngai, the former anchor is invited to present the "news" of a sexual violence victim in Sierra Leone.

Boys Help Fight for Girls’ Rights

While the world has achieved progress towards gender equality, girls in developing countries continue to suffer discrimination and injustice, and they face threats of violence, exploitation and abuse. A group of boys chooses to step up and speak for vulnerable girls, hoping to raise public’s awareness.

Haiti Hurricane: One Year On

On 4th Oct 2016, a category 4 Hurricane Matthew caused catastrophic damage in Haiti. Over 500 people died and some 2.1 million people were affected, including 560,000 children. Grand’Anse was one of the most affected regions in Haiti. 90 per cent of homes were damaged or destroyed, leaving people homeless.

Plan International Hong Kong allocated HKD 1.17 million, including a 0.521 million grant received from the Disaster Relief Fund of the Hong Kong government to support Plan’s relief work. The fund was mainly used on distributing hygiene kits to the affected.
