“Donate a Pencil Campaign” 2014 will be held in October

With the continuous support from Hysan Development as the Venue Sponsor, this year’s event will be held from 7th to 16th October 2014. A huge pink pencil holder will be set up at the Atrium, 1/F, Hysan Place, Causeway Bay, to collect new pencils donated by the public. The pencils will then be sent to underprivileged girls in China, Ghana, Nepal and Northern Thailand by this coming Christmas, as a gift imbued with a wish for a better future.

Current Ebola Outbreak

The current Ebola outbreak, the most severe and complex in history, has killed 1,145 people [**WHO estimate as of 17 Aug] so far in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria. Seven other West African countries, including Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, Mali, Ghana, Benin, Burkina Faso and Niger, are on alert. There are also suspected cases under medical care in Europe and North America.

Urgent relief requires for Yunnan earthquake victims

On 3rd August, a devastating 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck Ludian in China’s Yunnan Province. The disaster has so far claimed the lives of 589 people and injured 2,401 more. In addition, over 676,000 houses have been damaged, and approximately 229,700 people have had to be relocated. The situation is desperate, especially for children.

Pass on the Love – Mooncake Charity Sale 2014

Plan International Hong Kong is partnering with Kee Wah Bakery this year for mooncake charity sale. The net proceeds from the charity sale will go to support the construction of student dormitories for ethnic minorities children in Ningxia, China. With your support last year, the children in Cambodia are able to build up a healthy and secured life. We wish to have your continuous support this year to join force with us to help the needy children in Ningxia.

Ex-Plan Child - Mr. Vincent Ng

Vincent, a former Plan sponsored child who was helped by the organisation in the 1960s, had never thought he would fulfill his dream of paying a visit to Canada to meet his Foster Parents Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, who sponsored him decades ago. However, his dream finally came true after 50 years!

Ex-Plan Child - Ms. Yu Chui Wah, Dolly

Through Plan International, I became the sponsored child of Mr. B. D. Baily of Canada. With his monthly donation of $45, I was able to continue my schooling, my family did not have to live on canned food and I was able to get adequate nutrition to grow up.
